Raised Garden Beds Garden Design Plan
There's a lot happening in this backyard garden. It's practical and elegant at the same time. No matter where you look, there is something different to look at. Plus, there is something interesting to look at from all the spots in the garden.
Three different garden beds and all of them have a different elevation. The different elevations provide interest and character to the garden. Having three different beds allows for different plants, flowers and vegetables to be grown. Some ideas include:
- The square garden bed on the right could be used for raspberry bushes or other vegetables.
- The small garden bed in the center could be used for flowers or vegetables that need room to climb, such as tomatoes.
- The larger garden bed on the left has two tiers or levels. The back tier is three bricks tall and the front tier is two bricks tall. This allows you to plant flowers in one level and vegetables in the other level, or to have plants spill over the back tier and flow into the front tier, without fear of the plants taking over the lawn.
Even with the garden beds, this backyard still has room for a patio. The patio is a great spot to have a BBQ or to sit around the table to eat and chat with friends. Beside the patio is a shed for storage, yet it doesn't take up a lot of space.
The middle of the yard is kept free of structures so that the space doesn't feel crowded or small. Finally, at the back left corner, is a stone bench, which provides additional seating. It is placed on top of flagstones to tie in the garden beds that surround it. Ornamental grasses behind the bench help to camouflage the fence.
