Multi-Functional Townhouse Garden Design Plan

This plan is for the typical backyard of a townhouse in the city.  The backyard is 20 feet wide by 25 feet long.  This backyard has several purposes, as a young couple with children live here.  The purposes include an area for relaxing and entertaining, a small vegetable garden, flower gardens and an area for children to play.

The center of the backyard has been left open, free of any furniture or garden beds, so that the garden will not feel crowded.  Also, this area can be used for different purposes at different times.  For example, it can be used as an additional play area for the children or a folding table and chairs can be placed on the lawn and used as an eating area when entertaining.

The patio area is the dedicated area for relaxing and entertaining.  A table and four chairs make up the main eating area and if needed, additional folding chairs can be placed on the lawn.

The water fountain will provide the main source of relaxation.  The water will trickle down the fountain and through the small stones at the base of the fountain.  Once at the base of the fountain, a pump will bring the water back up to the top of the fountain.  The water fountain is also know as a disappearing fountain, as the water flows down the fountain and disappears through the stones at the bottom. 

The sand box is the dedicated area for the children to play in and will keep them entertained for hours.
