7 Time Saving Tips When Gardening
Gardening doesn't have to be time consuming or labour intensive. It
really is simple, peaceful and relaxing. The most important key to help you
save time when gardening is not creating extra work for yourself. Here are
seven tips that help you save time and work.
- Plan first. A garden is very forgiving. If you
don't get it right the first time, you can always replant and change
things around. However, the more things need to be changed, the more
work you will have to do. Therefore, when starting your garden, do a
little planning first. Really think about what you want from your garden
and how much time you want to spend in it. Then, plan the structure of
the garden – where the garden will go and how large it will be. It's a
lot of work to move garden walls around, so take your time and really
think it through. You really will save yourself time in the future if
the structure doesn't need to be changed because you got it right the
first time.
- Stay organized. Figure out where every tool and all
your supplies will go. You should know where each tool is located –
whether that means keeping all of your tools in one spot or keeping them
close to the area where you'll be using the tool. Then, when you need to
use a specific tool, you'll know exactly where to find it. Finally,
always make sure to put the tool back in its place. You'll save
countless hours by not having to search for the tools you need to do a
job.
- Pay someone else. If it is a task that you hate to
do, then you will probably keep putting it off. However, some tasks must
be done, no matter how loathsome or time consuming they are. If you find
that certain tasks aren't getting done, then hire someone to take care
of the time consuming tasks for you. Remember, your time is worth money
and so is peace of mind.
- Maintain tools. Not only do dull and damaged tools
break easier, but it makes it harder for you to do your job. Take a
little bit of time at the end of every season to sharpen and repair any
damages to your tools. Not only will you be able to finish your jobs
faster, but the tools will last longer and won't have to be replaced as
often.
- Love perennials. Find perennials that you love and
plant as many of them as you can. Perennials grow back every year on
their own; which means you don't have to replant them every year. And
that will save you lots of time at the beginning of summer.
- Proper watering. Don't over or under water your
plants. All they really need is a good soaking once a week. This will
help them establish a deep and healthy root system that can withstand
harsh weather and find water deep underground.
- Look for quality. Quality tools and plants are
worth paying a little bit more for. Quality plants won't need as much
care or fertilizer to grow healthier and longer than weaker plants.
Similarly, high quality tools will help you do the job easier and
quicker than inferior tools. Plus, inferior tools are more prone to
breaking, which could cause serious accidents.
