The great thing about plants is that they will grow in any kind of container. The most important thing in selecting a container is to ensure that it is large enough for the plant to spread out its roots for future growth. Nurseries and many local department stores sell a good variety of pots. But if you are looking for a pot with a bit of character, you may have to use a bit of imagination. Here are some great ideas for unique containers with character.
Glass
containers show off the plant's personality. To achieve this look, simply
take a glass container, add some polished rocks at the bottom and fill with
soil. As the plant grows you will see the roots grow to the side of the
glass container and towards the bottom. They are also a great way for
children to see first hand how a plant grows.
If you have a large backyard, consider using an old tub as a container. Find a suitable place for the tub in your yard and fill the drain hole with rocks. Do not make the drain completely water tight, as you will want any rain water to drain out. On the bottom of the tub, place a layer of fine gravel, which will allow for water to drain without losing soil. Next, fill the tub with soil. Plant a variety of plants, keeping in mind what height or width each plant will grow. For example, plant ornamental grasses in the middle and hanging flowers near the edge of the tub.
